How Can You Lose by Winning?

| Print This Post Print This Post

By Larry Cirignano.

Sometimes you have to learn that winning is not everything.

The 23rd Congressional District is the largest Congressional District EAST of the Mississippi River and it is Conservative. It has been in Republican hands since the Civil War.  Republicans have a 46,000 voter registration advantage over the Democrats 167,272 /120,887.

Republican Congressman John McHugh retired to take a position in the Obama Administration, as Secretary of the ARMY.  There is a Special Election for his seat on November 3, 2009.

The district is so conservative the Democrats were set to nominate a pro-life candidate in State Senator Jim Aubertine, until the Republicans spent a bunch of money to keep him out of the race.

There is a large percentage of voters in the district that are Catholic. Over 50% of the people who go to church call themselves Catholic.

Catholics are against killing, not against Democrats.  Most Catholics do not want to kill Democrats. We oppose all abortions. We oppose all abortionists.  It does not matter if they are Republican doctors or Republican donors.  A person who is a liberal should not get support because they call themselves a Republican.

The Republican nominee in NY -23, Dede Scozzafava, is not just pro-choice she is pro-abortion.  She is not just a moderate.  She is a radical pro-homosexual marriage advocate.  Oh and by the way, did I mention she likes to raise taxes?  The Democrats are running a TV Commercial that says she voted to raise taxes 190 times.

Voters in America want the Washington game to change.  They want 72 hours to read a bill before it can be voted upon. www.WeThePeopleCanRead.org, The Tea Party People, do not want special favors.  You can not buy their votes. They want to see Congress cut spending, earmarks and pork barrel projects.  They do not want a liberal tax and spend legislator even if she calls herself a Republican.

No more business as usual with National Republican Committees spending millions of dollars defending Senators like Chaffee (RI) and Specter (PA,) or House Members like Wayne Gilcrest (01-MD,) who switch parties or endorse the liberal opponent when they lose their seats to Conservative challengers.

The end does not justify the means and adding a radical liberal to the Republican Team hurts the label. Congressman Sessions needs to protect the Republican brand and not spend donors’ money to win at any cost.  Not all Republicans have to be as conservative as Sessions is (97% ACU Lifetime,) but one bad apple can spoil the whole bunch.  Congressman McHugh has a Lifetime ACU rating of 71%. He consistently won reelection with 60% of the vote. Scozzafava is the third most liberal member of the New York Legislature.

The National Republican Congressional Committee should be supporting Republicans, not radical liberals.  If they want to support people who will cancel out their votes, rather than people who will vote alongside them, then maybe we should vote both of them out.

Years ago the Republican Party opposed David Duke because he is a racist.  It did not matter that he had won a Primary election.   In this case the New York Republican voters did not get a vote.

Fortunately there is an alternative.  Doug Hoffman is an accountant and life long Republican who is running on the Conservative line.  If elected he will vote with the Republicans a lot more often than Scozzafava.

The Republican County Chairmen picked a RINO (Republican In Name Only;) the National Republican Congressional Committee should save it’s resources and sit this one out.
