Outstanding Hispanic: Republican National Hispanic Assembly National Chairman Alci Maldonado

Alci Maldonado, Chair for RNHA
Alci Maldonado is a Veteran Republican Community Activist and Supporter. Grassroots activists are the mainstay of every political campaign. The grassroots volunteer is the core of a campaign and the Republican National Hispanic Assembly (RNHA) has played a big role in many successful campaigns.
The RNHA is a vibrant, dedicated, and hard working grassroots organization, committed to bridging the Grand Old Party (GOP) and the Hispanic American community.
The RNHA’s formal realization took a significant step during the 1972 Presidential campaign, when, for the first time, a Republican Party outreach committee was created to involve and to engage Hispanic American voters. The Spanish Speaking Advisory Committee for the re-election of President Nixon was instrumental in acquiring 60% of the Hispanic vote.
Reviewing the substantial gains achieved by GOP candidates among Hispanic voters during the previous election, (then) RNC Chairman George H. W. Bush believed there was a need to keep all the Hispanic Americans who participated in President Nixon’s election in the ranks of the Party.
Subsequently, Chairman Bush announced the formation of the Spanish Speaking Advisory Committee to the RNC. The Committee’s goals were to expand and improve the participation of Spanish surnamed persons in the Party. Under the leadership of the national members of the Spanish Speaking Advisory Committee, the Republican National Hispanic Assembly was founded in July 1972.
Today, the RNHA is led by a very experienced grassroots veteran: Alci Maldonado of Florida. She was elected to a two year term as the RNHA National Chairman during its bi-annual convention in McLean, Virginia in August of 2009. While it’s difficult to pinpoint exactly when Chairman Maldonado’s interest in politics began, she remembers it was shortly after arriving in the United States from Columbia.
Alci has been highly involved with grassroots politics for most of her adult life; she has volunteered for, worked with, advised or served as the manager of political campaigns at all levels of state and federal offices. “To make your community, state, and nation a better place you have to be engaged at the grassroots level.”
Chairman Maldonado’s involvement in Party politics includes her election to various political offices such as Republican Precinct Committeewoman in Polk County, Florida and Chairman of the Polk County, Florida RNHA Chapter, which she founded.
Alci was subsequently elected as RNHA of Florida Secretary, the RNHA of Florida National Committeewomen, RNHA National Secretary and eventually she was elected as Chairman of the Florida Chapter.
Notwithstanding these political achievements and other accomplishments, Chairman Maldonado’s proudest accomplishment is her family. Two sons are attorneys, her oldest daughter is a retail management professional and her youngest daughter is a clinical psychologist.
Chairman Maldonado believes that a balance of political and civic activism is key to raising a well balanced family. “I’ve been involved, at some level, with politics and community affairs for the vast majority of my life as have my children” said Maldonado. “I clearly remember my youngest son sitting at a phone bank making calls to potential voters.”
As Chairman Maldonado pushes the RNHA through the tough, ever changing, and sometimes ruthless political climate, she says she will continue to use President Ronald Reagan’s 1979 observation that “Hispanics are Republicans; they just don’t know it yet,” as a driving force for her Republican activism.
“Hispanics should realize that they share the same common values of hard work, entrepreneurship, patriotism, and traditional family values of the Republican Party,” said Chairman Maldonado. “I am committed to bring more Hispanic Americans into their natural political home in the Republican Party.”

As a candidate for the U.S. Senate Arizona I commend Chairman Maldonado for understanding that being an American citizen comes with duty and responsibility. I encourage her to continue teaching civics and American history and government to bring citizens of Hispanic decent to learn how our Constitution works to protect all who respect its authority.
“Hispanics should realize that they share the same common values of hard work, entrepreneurship, patriotism, and traditional family values of the Republican Party,” said Chairman Maldonado. “I am committed to bring more Hispanic Americans into their natural political home in the Republican Party.”
I can not understand why you are featuring a woman with such a problematic record with the Florida GOP. Ms. Maldonado won elections of the RNHA in an “arranged” election. This caused a division among Hispanic Republicans in the country last fall. Founders of the RNHA, including former President George H.W. Bush, would be dissapointed of the development of the RNHA at a National level. This is ridiculous. The photo of her in this article is from 20 years ago!
I hope you have proof of your accusations because you seem to be flirting with slander. I think when someone is in a position of power there will be people who don’t agree with them or are against them. It’s the way the cookie crumbles. I thought Chairman elections were voted on therefore making it difficult for positions to be “arranged” as you claim. Either way where is your proof? Instead of smearing people when Hispanics are rising in positions of power perhaps you should find ways to make things better instead of trying to pull people who work hard down. As a side comment, why does it matter how old the picture is? You sound bitter.
Congratulations Mrs. Maldonado!
I want to really know what Alci has done that is so great to be featured here? Just because she knows a few folks here? Ask her what has she done to grown the RNHA in Florida. The answer is nothing. Everyone went about their own business & there are more new Hispanic Republic organizations & clubs in Florida than there are RNHA chapters. She has caused such a division there & look what is happening now on the national level. Several existing & former members establish a new national organization. It is sad.
Her press releases (that you can read on facebook or twitter) are very self centered….by stating “I” versus “we” etc. Either that or her communications person is not doing an effective job. And you should have heard her at the RNHA convention in August when asked about what can be done to reach out to Hispanic voters. That reaching out has nothing to do with social networks or new media but that “she” focused on working with people face to face, and because of “her” efforts the I-4 corridor went to McCain. Hello?!! The I-4 corridor did not go to McCain. The counties that went from Red to Blue were Pinellas, Hillsborough, & Osceola. What do all those counties have in common? A significant increase of Latinos in the last 4 years (look at the Pew report). Orange county remained blue but bluer & Polk county stayed red but by a closer margin. Does she know what she is talking about?
who does she know here? Do tell. Are you suggesting The Americano has been bought, paid off? I heard the new organization that was formed is a fraud because they stole confidential information and a crazy lady cornered Alci at the convention in the loo. What is the new organizations name Bella? You failed to mention its name. Need the name of the new organization because I want to check it out. Care to share?
Bella you brought this on your own. I know the crazy lady in the restrooms name and the RNC recognized her as good for Hispanics. What a mistake. You put down Alci and praise the new organization whom you didn’t name but are happy the crazy lady is part of the RNCs plans? You’re either the crazy lady or a lamba culo.
Jessica
I think I know what you are talking about. I was at the convention and this fat lady charged the restroom and acted like she owned the stalls. She had a thick accent and didn’t speak english well. She yelled, said some horrible things after she said she’s a Christian woman. We couldn’t believe it! I don’t know details about who she is but I’m sure we are talking about the same crazy lady. Paty they need to lavar la boca of the crazy lady.
The Americano has been bought, paid off? ”
No es solo la buena amistad entre Silvia y Alci no es cierto silvia?
Porque no invitas le das espacio a la Nueva Organizacion te dara permiso Alci
Bella Sofia – I wonder if a statement released by the National Chairman stating “I” vs. “we” is really that big of a deal. The statement is being released by Chairman Maldonado. When a statement is released by RNC Chairman Steele his statements use “I” vs. “we.” In fact, the release regarding Haiti uses “I” numerous times.
If you have issues with the Chairman, how would you suggest making RNHA better? Are you even involved or just a complainer? All I hear/read from you is what is wrong … what are your solutions? Grassroots is about face to face, knocking on doors, working phone banks. Social media is the new wave of grassroots that is still being tested & is not the only way to reach out to voters, it’s simply another tool.
BTW, the new organization that you’ve failed to name, what exactly have they done? They’ve been in existence for 3 or 4 months & all I’ve seen is promotion of the National Chair working at a soup kitchen on Thanksgiving, with pictures to prove he did it. Tell me something they have done to further Hispanic outreach to the greater audience.
Obviously when a new organization is being formed it takes time to build a coalition, so I would never expect much from them in the beginning.
As for Florida, where I am from, there are various organizations that have popped up in the last five years surrounding Lakeland where Alci is from, such as Club Politico (Pasco), Hispanic Republicans of Pinellas & Hillsborough, the Republican National Hispanic Alliance in Orlando, etc. (there are more). I would expect that part of the job of a Chairman (of Florida) is to help create new chapters & grow the organization.
If there are existing Hispanic Republican clubs in the surrounding area why hasn’t the chairman collaborated with these groups on setting up grassroot efforts, etc. This would also be a way for the RNHA to show a presence in those communities and establish a trust so that eventually those smaller groups would willingly want to become a part of a larger & established network (the RNHA). This is what the US Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) does too.
For example there is a Caribbean Chamber & a Tampa Latin Chamber & they are both affiliates of the USHCC providing the same benefits. Another example is 3 of those organizations (I mentioned above) collaborated on putting together a Picnic for all Hispanics in Tampa Bay. Working together drew so much attention that it got press there, & when the McCain camp heard of the press opportunity we got a call the day before that Fred Thompson & Mel Marinez were going to show up.
So you asked for suggestions & what I just mentioned is one example…collaborative effort, regardless if a group is affiliated with the RNHA or not. No matter what we all share the same principles and goals therefore we should all work together. Another suggestion is, we should work on educating others (like los gringos) on ways to better reach out to Hispanics. The party does have the image of having a problem with Hispanics & something like TheAmericano is just a start of working on that image. But we Latinos, not just the RNHA, should work on the same page by educating not just fellow Latinos what it means to be Republican but teaching others on how to better communicate their message among Hispanics.
Jessica, by the way what is this restroom situation all about? It sounds little personal to me. Shame on you, I would never expect the public expression of foul language to come out of a fellow Conservative Republican.
Jessica y que estabas en el bano? O te lo conto la chairman
Yes because when someone is yelling you can only hear it close by. I’m being sarcastic. Nice comeback on the part of the crazy lady
It’s not a foul word from my country. Maybe from yours but not mine. I’m not a conservative why are you labeling people about what type of Republican they are. You failed to name the new organization. I would like to learn about them. You should name them since you mentioned them. I don’t know the bathroom lady only her name because it is not personal. I asked at the convention who the lady yelling was and she also had on a name tag.
Obviously you already know the name of the organization because you are calling them a fraud. I am not praising any organization just pointing out a fact that the division is a sad situation. So you have to wonder why. When did I ever say I praise a new organization? Are you reading too much in between the lines with what I write & putting words into my mouth?
Even Wikipedia discusses another division in Florida causing a newly formed organization (nrha-alliance.org). Keep talking because I thought the restroom incident was a Senator Craig scenario. Do divulge more about the issues going on in there. And who is the crazy lady that is a part of the RNC’s plans that you mentioned earlier? Is there a division between the RNC & the RNHA now?
I said I heard not that I knew. You are getting advice from wikipedia? I will find out about the new organization on my own because this has made me curious.
A Senator Craig scenario? OK, that has crossed the line in so many ways I’ve lost count. How dare you insinuate that something along those lines occurred! Do you even know Chairman Maldonado or are you going by what others have told you? If you knew Alci you would know that she loves this party and her country more than anything, except her children. You could only dream of what she has done to move the GOP forward. You speak of unity, how is it this new organization was formed by the opposing candidates that promised unity if elected? I think they were poor losers and decided to take their ball home when they didn’t win. In fact, almost the entire California delegation got up and left the ballroom because their candidates didn’t win. How is that a show of unity? And because the new organization is new we shouldn’t expect much from them? What was the point of forming it then? If the members don’t believe in the mission or agree with the way the RNHA is being governed why did two of the officers of the new group stay on as state chairman of RNHA? Seems to me they want their cake and to eat it too.
Ana, I apologize for mentioning Senator Craig but Jessica brought up a restroom situation & that is what came to mind. I guess there is more to be told but I don’t care, because I was focused on discussing experiences from Florida. She went way off the subject which I began. Bringing up little petty details as to what occurred here or there doesn’t help the image of the RNHA. And for the record I am not here to promote one organization or another since I am not a member or an affiliate of either thus trying to remain a neutral as possible, however coming from Florida I have not been impressed with what I have witnessed.
Wow, so much negative vibes going on here!
Jessica….perhaps Bella should have put a slash (/) in between the words Conservative & Republican to be politically correct. But then again I would assume what makes a person a Republican is because of their Conservative values. Claiming that you are not a conservative is like a slap in the face to Newt & The Americano who established something so great here.
A conservative is not a republican. There are conservative democrats. Ignorant. I like Mr. Gingrich but he isn’t even a conservative and I don’t think I have to be one to belong to the republican party.
Ana I agree way out of line now that I see the terrible and gross insinuation paty made. Thank you for the information about the shady people who want to attack RNHA but still belong to it by holding titles. How sad.
Sure I agree there are conservative democrats. But Newt doesn’t consider himself conservative? I am trying to google search this & can’t find anything.
Perhaps he is but I saw an interview during the New York race when he endorsed the socially unconservative lady and he didn’t seem like a staunch social conservative. I might be wrong but it’s my opinion seeing the interview. I like him though and maybe the word conservative means nothing because you have all types. Nice discussion.
“Alci Maldonado is a Veteran Republican Community Activist and Supporter. Grassroots activists”
Glad to see that the Republicans have come around and instead of vilifying “community organizers” like they did during the last presidential campaign, they are now praising the virtues of the “community activist ” like Alci who I have not doubt is a tremendous community organizer.
Alci Maldonado is a true leader, unlike the former Chicago community organizer. Telling by your name, you may want to hire her for your “ovejitas”. They may see that liberalism is a mental disorder.
” Telling by your name, you may want to hire her for your “ovejitas”. They may see that liberalism is a mental disorder.”
WHAT are you babbling about ?
Encontre esto:
Newt Gingrich, himself long considered a leader of the GOP’s conservative wing,
so..
“Alci Maldonado is a true leader, unlike the former Chicago community organizer. Telling by your name, you may want to hire her for your “ovejitas”. They may see that liberalism is a mental disorder.” said John
John, can you tell me what she has done??
Can’t we all just get along? What is so wrong with this site congratulating this woman? Those of you claiming she’s divisive sound mighty divisive yourselves. I bet most of the complainers aren’t involved or active in the neighborhoods and sit on the sidelines flapping lips. Some of you sound jealous that she received this honor. Get your own accomplishments and stop trying to put people down for theirs.
Tom, I think you hit the nail on the head. There’s just too many envious attention seekers in our party and our culture. Sad, sad, sad. Guys, there’s enough “stardom” for everyone. If you stopped being such egomaniacs then maybe you could be more united. Who knows… maybe you’ll even get your own tv show!
I agree Marisol. It is sad to see when people exploit others for fame or celebrity in politics. I have seen many of my fellow Hispanics, not saying they are the only ones but they are the subject of my comment, use, manipulate, exploit, belittle and trash people to make a name for themselves. If the star chasers had real accomplishments of their own, integrity and a tendency to be a natural leader then they wouldn’t need to be exploiters to get recognized. If people resort to being pushy, and can’t give their egos a rest then I know better than to trust anything they say or do! I think you’re right about our culture of egomaniacs. The exploiters need a healthy serving of humble pie!
You mean people like Scott Brown.
Making amigitos again?
I don’t think he was talking about Scott Brown you big payaso. I think he means the people who pretend they are doing things for communities but really aren’t. They want the glory and fame but don’t want to do the hard work in the neighborhoods.
No, he meant people like you pastorcillo. Why don´t you write with your real name instead of hiding?
Melissa Jones, I used to know a Melissa Jones, who was a real cool and hot EMT. I doubt that’s you. What is this obsession with the screen name I use and what makes you think giving your name on the web is a good idea?? Makes no difference to me at all, what ever pleasure, objection or principle that you think giving my name on the web would satisfy is a unknown to me and of little concern. It’s true what they say about conservs… they have no clue about the web and everything bugs them. I hope you would use a screen name of sort so you would not be messing my nice memories of MY Mellisa Jones.
Hi Monica.
Compassionate for the vast , but I’m rattling committed the new Zune, and expectation this, as considerably as the fantabulous reviews whatever else group love inscribed, will ply you decide if it’s the proper prime for you.
