By Kathryn Gaines. As a college student social media sites, such a facebook and twitter, reflect my age group’s thought. These sights provide insight into the affiliations my “friends” want to make. While being a “fan” of cuddling may be pointless information, being invited to join a petition to have the government seize BP, reminds me where exactly my fellow college students’ thought lies. It seems that more and more my age group is learning to look to the government first and the individual second.

If anything in particular has been repeatedly demonstrated in the last few months, it’s that the challenges of cyber security and cyber intelligence far surpass the number of skilled professionals and technical solutions available to attend to these issues. Thus it is necessary and urgent that to a new generation of specialists in cyberspace security is encountered and properly educated.

Big Brother is on a growth spurt. With the unveiling of President Obama’s budget proposal of $3.8 trillion came the new government employment growth plans. Regardless of the laudable intention, some skepticism is warranted. The weaker the President gets –the vote in Massachusetts suggests that Obama is losing ground- the more he needs to spend. Spending buys support.

On December 25, a Nigerian student attempted to ignite a mixture of powder and liquid on a Northwest Airlines flight landing in Detroit, Michigan. Passengers helped to stop the suspect from carrying out his plot after the device failed to fully detonate, marking the 28th foiled terror plot against the United States since 9/11.
