The expression “No One is a Prophet in their Own Land” can apply to many aspects of human life: A father offering advice to his children, a teacher who tries to impart a moral/spiritual lesson to a student or one who offers counsel to a friend.
Yet in many respects, this expression perhaps does not find better use than when applied to the work of thinkers and writers. There are several reasons for this. First, we must not forget that the vocation of thinker and writer has always been a rather solitary one. Thinkers and writers who remain true to themselves and loyal to the demands of truth, form and beauty do not seek to appeal to mass man, or what is today all the rage: political correctness.
